we are in the Sahara, SW of the Gilf Kebir (Egypt)
one of the dryest areas on earth
wir sind in der Sahara, SW vom Gilf Kebir (Ägypten)
eines der trockensten Gebiete der Erde

it's hot .......... 48°C
almost no wind, the horizon is flickering ......
and mirages complete the mystic atmosphere
morgens um 10:30
es ist heiss ............ 48°C
fast windstill, alles flimmert ............. Lichtspiegelungen täuschen unsere Sinne
early in the morning Cumulus clouds apear ......
where the humidty comes from?
bereits vormittags entstehen Cumulus-Wolken ........... woher nur die Feuchtigkeit?
the clouds cause a miraculous atmosphere with exciting
light and shadow sceneries
die Wolken verzaubern die Wüste in ein spannungsvolles Licht-/Schattenspiel
suddenly we note that the cloudbase is coloured yellowish! (sand!)
die Wolkenunterseite ist auffallend gelb! (Sand!)
............. threatening!
............. bedrohlich!
around us, small dust devils apear
rundherum entstehen kleinere DustDevils
they start to grow bigger and bigger ............
dieser wird immer grösser ...................
driving paralel to them, we try to keep up with the ¨storm¨
seitlich versuchen wir mit dem "Sturm" mitzuhalten
with speeds over 100kmh ........ (in the background our car nr.2)
mit 100 km/h ................... (im Hintergrund unser Begleitfahrzeug)
still in front and without any worry
noch guter Dinge
the visibillity gets worse .......... sand, sand, sand!
die Sicht wird schlechter .............. Sand, Sand, Sand!

the sand ist carried into the cumulusclouds by the dust plume
nennt sich Dust Plum
yust before the sand reaches us
kurz davor
now it's here!

we're in the middle
extreme windvelocities ....... ever been in a sandblasting maschine?
the sand hurts like needles penetrating the skin
wir sind drin
extreme Windgeschwindigkeiten,
die Sandkörner werden zu spitzen "Stecknadeln"
now we have to look for shelter in the car.
as I tried to open the door an electric shock caused by static electricity
flushed my body
wir müssen in Deckung ........ also nichts wie rein ins Auto ......... bei der ersten Berührung mit dem
Türgriff erhalte ich einen "bösartigen" elektrischen Schlag infolge statischer Aufladung
than it becomes dark .......
es wir dunkel ............
........ and the wind shakes the cars in a way that we have to turn them with
the backside in the winddirection
der Wind rüttelt bedrohlich an unseren Auto's
2 minutes the air is cooking ..............
then the sky is "clear" everything is calm and ..... it starts to rain.
rain in the middle of desert from a blue sky!
caused by the dust in the clouds making the humidity to condensate into rain
unbelievable ........... than it's over
2 Minuten in Teufel's Küche ............. es folgt etwa 30 Sekunden Regen;
Regen in der Wüste! aus blauem Himmel (Sandkörner als Kondensationskerne)
........... dann ist der ganze Spuck vorbei
we took of our shirts to feel the rain on our skin :-)
die freuen sich wie die kleinen Jungs :-)
this for sure was the devils kitchen!!!!!

after 2,5 weeks we returned to the same place again
2,5 Wochen später (am gleichen Ort)

green grass with flowers .......... what kind of miracle
grünes, blühendes Gras ................ welch ein Wunder
this day will be in our minds forever!
das wird für uns ein unvergesslicher Tag bleiben!
